Linking monitoring records to specific steps in the batch procedure

With the current Batching Module you can’t access monitoring records until the Batch Record portion - which contains the step by step procedure - has been Saved and Submitted. Because documentation may be required prior to completing the full procedure, it would be amazing if monitoring records could be linked directly to the applicable step in the procedure.

I'm wondering if there would be some more natural way of linking the two together than connecting one step to an entire monitoring program.

Perhaps it would be possible to just embed tests into the program configuration and they would somehow appear directly inside the batching record? You could ideally select different tests for each step.

This however sounds like a major, major reworking of the module so I'm wondering how feasible something like this is in practice. This however would make the batching module a very powerful monitoring module in itself and reduce the number of records in the system if you can capture all the quality data already on the batch sheet.

    Program configuration:

    Batch Step Tests
    Measure Ingredients
    • Is quantity right?
    • Ingredients temperature?
    Mix Ingredients

    No tests for this step..

    Put in jars
    • Jar temperature
    • Final product color

    The actual record:

    Measure ingedients

Step complete? Is quantity right? Ingredients temperature?
    Yes Yes 22.1

    Mix Ingredients

    Step complete?

    Put in jars

Step complete? Jar temperature Final Product Color
    Yes 102.4 Dark red

I think what you've described below would be even better than what I had envisioned. Once a batch had been completed you would be able to review all applicable test results in one location, instead of needing to open each monitoring record individually. You're right though, it would be a big change.
